After Nebraska residents voted to legalise casino gambling at at horse racing tracks last year, other cities in the state are looking for a piece of the action.

At the most recent Nebraska State Racing Commission meeting, five locations – Bellevue, York, Norfolk, North Platte and Gerring – submitted an application to start a horse racing track with the long-term goal of also bringing in a casino.

However, senator Ray Aguilar, the architect of the bill which legalised casinos in the Cornhusker State, cautioned about the possibility of over saturation.

“I don’t think we want to get put ourselves in a position where we over saturate the market here,” he explained. “The people voted for having maybe six casinos with existing race tracks in place and now we have people popping up real quick and installing race tracks. I just don’t know if it’s a good idea.”
